Joshua Batty


Joshua Batty is swiftly becoming recognised as one of the world’s leading flautists. He currently balances his position with the Sydney Symphony with a busy solo schedule and is gaining a reputation for his tireless mission to expand the flute repertoire.

An in-demand soloist, Joshua has performed at Buckingham Palace before royalty and appeared frequently as concerto soloist, most recently under conductors John Wilson, Johannes Fritz and soon Simone Young (Sydney Opera House 2024).

Currently he is in the process of expanding the flute repertoire, commissioning and premiering flute concerti and solo works by composers such as Sir Stephen Hough, Harry Sdraulig and Nigel Westlake as well as making his first solo CD with concert pianist Andrea Lam.

Teaching is a major passion of Joshua's and at the age of 23 he was made a flute tutor at RNCM and University of Melbourne after this. Since relocating in 2019, he has turned his focus to curating charity concerts, so far raising in excess of $50,000 for Bushfire Appeal, the Ukraine war, Support Act for artists with pandemic related financial difficulty and WIRES animal welfare.
